What had your business journey looked like?

I’ve been creative since I was a young girl falling in love with writing short stories and essays, painting, drawing, reading and when I found poetry as an adolescent that changed everything for me.

For me, my business journey hasn’t been easy yet it has been a very personal, evolutionary and passionate journey full of many moments of self-discovery, reflection, hope, faith and the willingness to grow, learn, unlearn and become better. Even in the midst of the unknown and uncertainty.

It has helped to shape me as a woman and in my walk of entrepreneurship. Reminding me of the faith, strength, grace, understanding and wisdom that’s needed in order to follow my dreams, life’s calling and passions in a positive, inspirational and bold way.

What drew you to your field of work?

In 2015, years ago—after being a blogger, poet and photographer, I had this feeling of urgency to dive a bit deeper into entrepreneurship and business. So, I started my own personal blog sharing my own stories, poems and essays along with featuring other creatives and artists by sharing their stories and art on a platform that gave the space to be appreciated and recognized.

Years later in 2019, I created a magazine company (Sage Magazine). Sage Magazine is an international print and digital publication company that shared the many personal stories of creatives and brands around the world in the fashion, beauty, lifestyle and wellness industries.

It was a beautiful community and brand that honored many worlds of art, beauty and storytelling helping to inspire, encourage and shine a light on the stories and people that aren’t in mainstream media today.

Now, years later—I’ve taken a step back to reclaim my passions and to pivot into taking all of the skills, knowledge and understanding that I’ve acquired since the beginning of my creative career to help other women entrepreneurs and indie brands fulfill their life’s calling, purpose and dreams through the world of business and art in a way that leads with inspiration and community too.

What is your creative process like?

My creative process is very spontaneous. Everything starts with an idea, vision or dream. It’s full of planning and curation that begins with a precise roadmap whether that be through brainstorming, gathering moodboards, or writing out the ideation process.

It’s always about putting the best effort in making things happen and innovating a vision that’s unique, purposeful and beautiful to the client, brand and project.

Where do you turn for creative inspiration?

Personally, I believe that inspiration can be found in everything and everyone around me. Creative inspiration tends to come in the quaint moments of life that people may take for granted. I find inspiration in my personal relationship with God, in navigating through purposeful friendships, admiring the beauty of nature, food, love, people and art. There’s so much beauty in this world that’s here to be adored and I find that inspiration comes most when I’m present and in the moment no matter the time of day or season.

What does a day in your studio/office/workspace look like right now?

A day in the studio looks like a balance between work, life and play. I find that working on projects for a set time differently each day helps me to still enjoy life, family and personal passions such as cooking, baking, writing, exploring nature, reading, etc. In between the studio’s hours—I’ll take breaks as necessary to breathe, go outside in nature, have any personal conversations with family and friends or research and find any new inspiration for upcoming projects.

What do you enjoy most about running a business?

I enjoy the purpose and freedom of being in business. The creativity, discipline and evolution of having a business and being an entrepreneur that leads with faith, authenticity, positivity and inspiration. I love being able to connect, collaborate and bring the visions of many creatives and brands to life through design, art and storytelling. It’s a rewarding and honorable journey that brings me great joy and gratitude.

Has there been a particular challenge you’ve faced in your business?

Yes, I believe in every journey there are challenges that arise to show us who we are and to help us grow in life. I’d say for me the most challenges I’ve faced in business is realizing and accepting that not everyone is meant to understand your vision and that’s okay. As long as I am leading in purpose and truth and the people and community I create, connect and collaborate with feel seen, loved and supported—that’s all that matters.

What is something you hope to inspire in others through your work?

It’s always a mission of mine to inspire people to grow in their faith in God, believe in who they are and to unapologetically share their voice, art and story with the world even if it’s not popular or well-known yet. Inspiring diversity and inclusion through beauty, art and community is also a major infrastructure in my work and the way I see the world. For people to find greater purpose and passion and never to compromise their integrity when it comes to the meaning and quality of their creativity and artistic expressions.

What’s next for your business? Are there new directions or ideas you’re exploring?

Outside of the studio—I’m working on bringing a new vision to life. A global lifestyle brand and online destination by the name of NERIYA. A heartful community through the inspiration of food, home and the life we live which will be officially launching this Fall/Winter season.
