They’re premade designs that speed up the process of building your website as you’re not building from scratch. They include fonts, color palettes, pages, and layouts, and they are customizable using the Squarespace 7.1 Fluid Engine editor.

What to Look for in a Squarespace Photography Template:
Here are a few things we recommend looking out for when choosing a Squarespace template for photography, whether you’re a wedding photographer, portrait photographer, or shooting editorial or fashion-based work.
Brand & Business Goals
The first thing to consider is your overarching brand and business goals, because your website should support them. What are your aims for the next 1-3 years? Is it to book more clients, or to start booking at a higher price point? Do you want a store to sell prints, albums, or presets from? Do you want to launch a course teaching your approach to photography?
From there, consider what you need from your website. Does it need to reflect a certain price point? Does the design need to be of certain calibre? How custom should it feel? Does it include a store, a blog, or the other features you need?
It’s good to look for a template that’s as close to what you need as possible. However, Squarespace templates are highly customizable. If the fonts and colors aren’t the right fit for example, they can be changed on any Squarespace template. In the same way, if a template doesn’t include a store or a blog page, you can always add one on later. Squarespace Stores, Blogs, Courses, Scheduling, and Memberships can be added to any Squarespace site (plan upgrades or paid add ons may be required). So the inclusion of these isn’t a deciding factor when choosing a template, but it makes the set up process easier to have these pages pre-styled and set up for you.
Strategic Design
A template’s visual style is important, but you shouldn’t choose a template only on its aesthetic. Look for templates that are strategically designed to help visitors understand who you are, your story, your offers, and how they can take the next step towards booking you. Does the template include spaces for your story and portfolio? Are there services, FAQs, and sales pages?
Again, things like FAQs and testimonial sliders can be added to any Squarespace site with built-in tools, but a template that already includes these elements styled to match the rest of the template will save you time while setting up your site.
Room to Grow
We love templates that offer room to grow. What we mean by that is that right now, you might just be looking to use a website to share your portfolio. But as you grow, you may find that you want to expand into a blog sharing your expertise, a store to sell physical or digital products, or a sales page to encourage sales of a signature service or offer.
Look for templates that include a range of pages. Even if you don’t need them right now. It’s always useful to have the option to expand into them later.
Imagery & Galleries
Of course, images need to be a key part of a Squarespace photography template. Look at the use of images and how they’re presented, and if they align with how you’d like your site to look. Do you want a simple masonry gallery, or interactive ways of displaying your images? Do you want to see any animations, hover effects, or unusual layouts?
