A Complete Guide to Squarespace Saved Sections

When designing in Squarespace, you often create a layout you love, and don’t want to have to manually recreate it on other pages.

Squarespace Saved Sections are a feature that lets you save a section and reuse it anywhere on your site. This means you can build your own library of sections you can pull from whenever you want to add new content.

As Squarespace designers, this is one of our favorite features because it’s so helpful in speeding up the design process. In this guide, we’ll share how to create, manage, and use Saved Sections to make your site easier to update and maintain.

What Are Squarespace Saved Sections?

Saved Sections are a Squarespace 7.1* feature that lets you save a section to reuse across your site. This means you can build a branded call-to-action, testimonial section, FAQ section, etc. and add it to other pages without needing to rebuild it.

It’s different from duplicating a section. Duplication only allows you to use the section on the same page, while Saved Sections can be used on other pages.

Why Should You Use Saved Sections?

Time-Saving

Saved Sections speed up your design process. If you’ve spent time styling an element, like a List Section or Accordion Block, you don’t want to have to spend time adding all the correct settings each time you want to use your styled element. With Saved Sections, the process only takes a few clicks.

Design Consistency

Saved Sections also mean that you can keep your styled elements consistent. Each time you add your Saved Section, it will retain the same layouts, spacing, sizing, etc. so you can keep your design consistent across pages.

Reusability

Your Saved Sections can become a library of styled elements, so each time you design you’re working from a collection of branded sections.

How to Save a Section

Let’s explore how to save a section in Squarespace:

Edit Section

Start by navigating to the page that contains the section you’d like to save, and enter Edit Mode by selecting the Edit button in the top left-hand corner.

Next, hover over the section you want to save until you see the section toolbar appear:

Select the Heart Icon

Look for the heart icon in the toolbar, and press it to save the section:

The section will now be saved to your library of Saved Sections.

How to Use a Saved Section

The next step is using a Saved Section by adding it to a different page.

Start by navigating to the page where you’d like to add the section and enter Edit Mode.

Hover into the page until you see the Add Section button:

In the Add a Section area, choose the Saved tab. You’ll see all your Saved Sections ready for use. You can also rename them to stay organized.

How to Edit a Saved Section

Once you’ve added a Saved Section, you can edit it like any other section on your site. Update the text and images as needed.

Please note: changes you make to a Saved Section on the page will not automatically update the version you saved in your library. The saved version will stay as it is, and each instance of a Saved Section can be edited independently.

Ways to Use Saved Sections

Here are a few ways that we like to use Saved Sections:

Testimonial Sections

Testimonial sections can take a while to build out. You need to add all the testimonial content, then style the section or slider. If you save your testimonial section, you can quickly add it to multiple services or products pages.

Newsletter Forms

If you run a newsletter, you’ll likely want to share your newsletter sign up on multiple pages, i.e. on home and multiple sales pages. Saving a section that contains your Newsletter Block means you don’t need to redesign it each time. Please note that storage connections do not carry over, and you’ll need to reconnect your storage after adding the saved newsletter block.

Contact Forms

We personally like to make calls-to-action and contact methods really visible, which often means adding contact forms on multiple pages. After adding the content that you’d like to see in your form, you can save it to reuse.

FAQs and Info

If there are particular FAQs or pieces of information that you know you’d like to share on multiple product or service pages, add them to your Saved Sections.

Seasonal Content

Saved Sections can also be useful for content that you wanted stored for later but don’t want to display all the time. Seasonal or time-sensitive content can be saved for when it’s ready to use, and be re-used next year.

Saved Section Limitations

250 Sections

Squarespace caps your library at 250 Saved Sections. This tends to be plenty, and you can always delete old ones to make room for more. Just be aware that your Saved Sections aren’t unlimited.

Site-Limited

You can’t use Saved Sections to move content between sites. They can only be moved within your own site unless you’re a Squarespace Circle member, which allows you to save sections to your account.

Functionality

There are some areas where Saved Sections can’t be used, like in blog posts and checkout pages.
